THE BREATHING PATHWAY

Breathing becomes unconsious when, in order to clamp down against pains too big to be consciously felt, our organism narrows or closes its sensorial window and in so doing creates a split in us incompatible with Reality's INFINITE oneness. Since then on our breathing becomes unconscious and its circular pattern is fractured just as the wholeness of our body's functioning is broken.

In the Yoga techniques, Pranayama is considered the art of breathing. Yet, could it be Ujjayi, Kapalabhati, Nadhi Sodahana or Sithali, Pranayana, by its sophistication is trapped in the thinking mind which controls it and in consequence the breathing technique cannot go beyond identification with thoughts. This kind of elaborated breathing can also be dangerous if wrongly executed. What I propose to my students is to merely observe our breathing without trying to manipulate and change it in any way. This OBSERVATION helps us focusing on our breathing which is the royal road to unconscious feelings and beyond to BEING itself. Indeed, it is by reintegrating all our scattered parts, conscious and unconscious, in one conscious unity that we retrieve BEING in us or Reality's ISness and its INFINITE unity.

Consciousness is INFINITY's essence.

When I was a Sufi near the Ghotb Javad Nurbakhsh, the Zekr which was taught to us involved a conscious breathing, together with the reminding of God's two names, Allah and Hu, at each inhalation and each exhalation. Yet again this method involves the thinking mind and stagnates in identifiction with thoughts.

Ramakhrishna, the well known Yogi of the 19th century said that in order to retrieve God, or Reality's INFINITE ISness, the God of our thoughts must be abandoned. Also, when Moses facing the Light of the Burning Bush asked God: "By which name shall I call you ?" God replied: "I am the one who IS" (יהוה), which means, you will not know me through the thinking mind and the names our thoughts invent but through BEING in you. Again, the Tao Te Ching, written by Lao Tzu some 2500 years ago, says in its first chapter: "The Tao that can be told is not the INFINITE Tao and the name that can be named is not the INFINITE name". What must be understood is there is only one spiritual path in the world which consists in retrieving BEING in us and its PEACE. For this to happen we must abandon our disconnected thought-identity which generates divisions and conflicts.

Yet, our thought-identity is very clever and it recycles everything, even God, in order to camouflage itself the best it can and keep its control over us. For instance, the God that commands killing innocent people en masse is the God engineered by our thoughts, it is an illusory-God. Only pure OBSERVATION can flush identification with thoughts out. Indeed, we must be the pure Observer in us who includes everything in the space of OBSERVATION, and first of all we must include our breathing into this conscious space. Conscious breathing is a channel by which we retrieve BEING in us or the INFINITE ISness of Reality.
